Window to the Sun

Window to the Sun was my first exhibition at MARS (Melbourne Art Rooms) after meeting Andy Dinan at the artist’s talk for the Kamarooka at the Helen Lempriere Sculpture Award, which was acquired by the Bendigo Bank along with Red Box.  This second version from the Red Box series (the first appeared in Gallery & Grove at the Yarra Sculpture Gallery) and other works such as Graphic, Sunset and Sunrise continued my observation of the abstract, yet perfectly composed forms found throughout the Australian bush, particularly those that have the drama of light, time and the elements working upon them.

The medium of bronze lends itself so well to these forms, for the strength and grace inherent in trees can be captured in this robust material with modulation, texture and the subtle patination techniques that make bronze sculpture so unique.
